Alumni mentorship: connecting generations without friction

Turn your senior alumni into mentors. A recent graduate looking for advice on a career change, a first job, or relocating abroad? A senior alumnus in the right field answers in one click. Terrilink structures the matching, acceptance, conversation and follow-up — with an admin dashboard to keep momentum going.

The problem with alumni mentorship today

Plenty of schools want to run a mentorship program. Few actually succeed. Here's why.

Requests pour in by email, scattered

A student writes to three alumni picked at random. Two never reply, the third vaguely agrees. No trace, no follow-up, no collective memory of who is mentoring whom.

Potential mentors are not identified

Nobody knows who in the network is available as a mentor, on what topic, with how many open slots. The result: the same names keep getting over-asked while everyone else is ignored.

No steering, no KPI

It is impossible to tell whether the school's mentorship program actually works: how many active mentorships, what acceptance rate, what average duration? Without data, there is no way to keep it alive.

How Terrilink structures alumni mentorship

Five building blocks that move mentorship from email improvisation to a real program.

1. Editable mentor profile

Any alumnus can activate their mentor profile: availability ON/OFF, domain tags (up to 10 — career change, finance, first job, relocation, entrepreneurship…), dedicated bio, maximum capacity (default 3 concurrent mentees).

2. Admin validation

The school admin validates eligible mentors (alumni or active-member type). This ensures only relevant profiles appear in the available-mentors list.

3. Filterable mentor list

Search bar (name, company, skill, bio) + filters for domain, school, city. Each mentor card shows avatar, role, school, bio, tags, and available slots ("3 slots available" or "Full"). A Request button opens the form.

4. Request / acceptance workflow

The mentee specifies a mandatory topic (100 characters) and an optional message (2000). The mentor receives an in-app + email notification. Upon acceptance, a dedicated conversation is automatically created (e.g. "Mentorship — Marie D."). A "Mentor" badge appears in Network Radar.

5. Real-time admin dashboard

Period filter 7d / 30d / 90d / All. KPIs: available mentors + open slots, total / pending / active requests, acceptance rate, completed, declined. Dedicated alert for mentors at full capacity — to contact or supplement.

Anti-duplicate & notifications

Only one active request per mentor/mentee pair (prevents harassment). Four notification types: request received, acceptance, decline, end of mentorship. Everything stays tracked in the platform.

3 typical use cases

Professional career change

An alumnus considering a move from consulting to a SaaS startup is looking for someone who has done it. They filter "career change" and "SaaS" in the mentor list, find 4 profiles and contact one. Dedicated conversation open in 48 hours.

First job right after graduation

A final-year student wants feedback on a finance role in investment banking. A senior alumnus already approved as a mentor replies, advises, and makes an introduction to a recruiter.

Relocating abroad

An alumnus is preparing to move to Montreal. They filter mentors based in Canada, contact an alumnus who has been there for 5 years, and get practical advice (visa, schools for kids, neighbourhoods) in a dedicated conversation.

Frequently asked questions — Alumni mentorship

How does an alumnus become a mentor in Terrilink?

An alumnus activates their mentor profile from their personal space: availability toggle, domain tags, dedicated bio, maximum number of mentees (3 by default, adjustable up to 20). The admin validates eligible mentors to ensure quality.

How does the mentorship request work?

The mentee finds a mentor via the filterable list, clicks Request, specifies a mandatory topic and an optional message. The mentor receives an in-app and email notification. Upon acceptance, a dedicated conversation is automatically created.

Which indicators can the admin track?

The dashboard displays, by period (7d / 30d / 90d): available mentors and open slots, pending and active requests, acceptance rate, completed mentorships, and an alert for mentors at full capacity. See also the full guide to launching a mentorship program.

Is mentorship included in every Terrilink plan?
